Our Mission
Based in Lincoln, we’re Lincolnshire’s first group dedicated to mammal conservation. We focus on advocating for the protection of native mammals and bringing people closer to nature.
What began as the Lincoln Imps team competing in (and winning!) the Mammal Society’s national University Mammal Challenge in 2025 has since grown into a close-knit group of friends united by a shared passion for protecting local wildlife and has led to the creation of the Lincolnshire Mammal Group.
Challenges Mammals Face
More than a quarter of UK mammal species face extinction. Despite being some of the most well-loved and recognised species, mammals are among the most depleted.
Mammals play key roles in ecosystems, and their growing absence has a cascading effect on the world’s landscapes, habitats and ways of life for animals, plants and people alike.
We Commit To:
- Advocating for nature.
- Educating our local community about mammals and the challenges they face.
- Being custodians of an inclusive and diverse mammal society group.
Our Constitutional Goals
Engage and inspire
- Promote awareness and understanding of British mammals and their ecological importance.
- Organise events, campaigns and communications to raise public and policy awareness of mammal conservation.
- Support inclusive participation in mammal conservation across all sectors of the community.
Record, research and build skills
- Increase the quality and quantity of mammal records within Lincolnshire, contributing to national conservation datasets.
- Provide access to training in mammal identification, surveying and recording.
Connect and sustain
- Acting as a point of coordination for individuals, schools, communities and partner organisations engaged in mammal-related activities in Lincolnshire
- Generate income through fundraising, donations and grant applications to support the above aims.
Meet Our Founders
Georgie Fletcher |
Chair
Georgie’s happy place is beach-combing with her family along the coasts of Lincolnshire and Norfolk, or enjoying a picnic while exploring a new nature reserve. She has always loved the great outdoors and holds many happy memories of discovering new places with her family, something she hopes to continue with her husband and son.
Her favourite mammal is the adorable field vole, which she came to appreciate after spotting them on small mammal camera traps. It’s hard not to think they’re SUPER cute when you see their tiny tails!
Her personal goal is to see every UK mammal in the wild, some of which are a bit harder than others to spot! Through her work with the Lincolnshire Mammal Group, she also hopes to inspire others to get involved and develop a love for the natural world. She firmly believes that once people see how incredible Lincolnshire’s nature is, they will recognise its value and want to protect it so future generations can live in a beautiful, nature-rich world.

Secretary
Becky, a Lincoln local, fondly remembers many trips out into the Lincolnshire countryside with her family while growing up. Nowadays, if something involves fresh air, muddy boots or even the slightest chance of spotting wildlife, it’s likely she’ll already have one foot out the door. Her favourite mammal is the badger after developing a fondness for them while competing in the University Mammal Challenge.
Her LMgroup goal is for the group to connect with as many people in Lincolnshire as possible to expand mammal conversation across the county.
Ryan Dean |
Treasurer
Ryan’s interest in the natural world started at a young age, spending time with his family outdoors, especially his great grandfather- a farmer and keen outdoorsman- who inspired their curiosity about wildlife and the natural world.
He believes mammals are an important part of that network and one we should strive to protect. His favourite mammals are the pachyderms (elephants and rhinos) though technically that isn’t a proper ecological term anymore. UK-native, it would be the hedgehog which are common sight where he lives and always a joy to behold.
His LMgroup goal is to ensure that the group has long term financial viability and can continue to operate and perform it’s mission.
Lucy Cousins |
Fundraising Officer
Lucy’s love of nature began with looking for woodlice with her older brother. These days she loves monitoring badgers and expanding her botany knowledge, other than her hamster Jean, she can’t pick a favourite mammal. But has knack for finding shrews. Lu has a masters in Biodiversity, Conservation and Nature Recovery and is currently working in an ecological consultancy.
Her goal is to get a bat licence within the next couple of years.
Tom Hallam | Communications Officer
Tom’s a Lincoln-local and has been passionate about nature since he’d stay up past his bedtime drawing and reading about fish and dinosaurs. He’s happiest when admiring vast natural landscapes while slowing down to enjoy the little things that nature has in store. His favourite UK mammal is the badger following an unlikely late-night encounter with one, but he will always have a soft spot for the often-overlooked marine mammals like seals and whales (sorry Captain Ahab).
Tom’s LMgroup goal is to collaborate with other local charity groups and help to inform Lincoln’s public on the nature around them.
Lexy Foxley-Wood | Engagement Coordinator
Lexy has been passionate about nature for as long as she can remember. Happiest with a camera in hand photographing wildlife or gardening at her allotment, she spent 7 years in sustainability communications and engagement in Higher Education. Her favourite British mammal is the Pine Marten (His Dark Materials fans unite).
Her LMgroup goal is to record mammal surveys on every Lincoln city allotment site.
Elle Nair |
Events Officer
Elle’s love for nature came about in her adult life. She’s spent most of her life as a keen geographer, and only recently developed a love for wildlife last year. Her favourite mammal is the beaver because of how well they can protect us from flooding (and because they’re cute).
Her LMGroup goal is to put on loads of fun, engaging events to help members of the public of all ages find a new passion in mammals like she has.

Ever since a trip to Banham Zoo at 5 years old, Sam has had a fascination with animals, specifically mammals. His favourite mammal is a cheetah (or pine martens for the UK).
Sam’s LMgroup goal is to make sure the group truly makes a difference through cataloging mammals across Lincoln.

Online Content Support
A geographer since high school, Rob has always cared about the world outside his walls while having fun with friends within them. A lover of hedgehogs (both blue and brown), he wishes to use data science to assist in UK conservation efforts, and hopes to have an impact from both his laptop and in the field.
His Lincolnshire Mammal Group goal is to spread the word of conservation online, and to hopefully return to Lincoln soon to join our in-person efforts.
