For our February event we held an owl pellet dissection, using locally-sourced Barn Owl pellets from Harby. As a beloved but sometimes struggling owl species in the UK, it’s not only important to monitor their presence but what they eat. And usually, they eat small mammals like shrews, mice and other rodents which you can find the bones of in owl pellets.
Our fantastic co-founder Elle gave a great presentation about the hows and whys of barn owls and their pellet dissection, as well as the invasive Greater white-toothed shrew in case its bones were found in any pellets.
We had 18 people turn up, so thanks everyone for coming and dissecting so many pellets! And thank you to St. Faith’s Church Hall for allowing us to hire your venue. In the meantime, join us for our other events throughout the year and we’ll see you next time.
